What is a Child Arrangements Order?

A child arrangements order is an order which regulates the arrangements of a child to include:

  • Who the child is to live, spend time or otherwise have contact with
  • When the child is to live, spend time or have contact with either parent

Child Arrangement Order example

Contact between the parent and child can take the form of direct contact. Such as staying overnight, visiting, meeting for a meal or activity.

It can also take the form of indirect contact. For example, telephone calls, FaceTime, emails, sending or receiving cards for birthdays or festive celebrations.

Indirect contact is generally ordered when it is not suitable or appropriate for the child to see the parent directly, even if the contact is supervised.

If you have parental responsibility for the child, then you can make your application to Court without having to seek prior permission. If you do not have parental responsibility, then you will need to seek permission from the Court to make your application first.
