TRA Preparation for PCP Meeting
The client, a teacher, accepted unprofessional conduct, in an unusual case, where he had asked a student (age 17) to go out on a date with him after she had finished her final term at the school, but this while he was suffering a psychosis episode; having failed to manage his schizophrenia.
The DBS had already placed him on the barred list; thus, we opted for a meeting accepting unprofessional conduct but in detailed defence submissions opposing a prohibition order. We collated testimonials from those who had worked with the teacher over his previous unblemished 22 years of teaching, his doctor explaining how he is now managing his condition and assisted him with detailed reflections.
The TRA found that the incident was an error of judgement, impacted largely by the Teacher’s health condition, which he was now successfully managing and that consequently they did not believe that he presented any ongoing risk. Consequently, no prohibition order was made.
