Latoya is a solicitor at Richard Nelson LLP. She began her legal career in 2013 in criminal defence, advising clients from the police station stage through to subsequent Magistrates’ and Crown Court proceedings. This background gives her a strong understanding of the issues that can arise from police contact and criminal records, which now underpins her highly experienced practice in police records and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) laws.
She advises on a wide range of issues relating to police disclosure and DBS decision-making, including challenging information disclosed on DBS certificates, responding to police representations for Enhanced DBS checks, applying for reviews of barring decisions, and handling appeals against inclusion on the barred lists. She also assists with applications to remove police cautions and other records, particularly where historic or minor matters are affecting a client’s career, or travel opportunities.
