The General Chiropractic Council has appointed Suzanne McCarthy as Chair to succeed Peter Dixon. The appointment took effect from 9 January 2013.

Suzanne has an extensive background in regulation, particularly in healthcare. She is a member of the Human Tissue Authority and of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors UK Regulatory Board.

She was previously Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, and recently retired as a member of the General Medical Council. She also served as a Board member of the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital Foundation NHS Trust.

Suzanne is currently the UK’s Immigration Services Commissioner, and also chairs the Ethical Trading Initiative, a unique alliance of business, NGOs and Trade Unions. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of London and the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Prior to her current roles, Suzanne was the inaugural Chief Executive of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. She also worked in both the Home Office, where she was Private Secretary to two Home Secretaries, and HM Treasury.

Suzanne holds degrees from American and British universities. She is a qualified solicitor and services on a number of quasi-judicial panels.
