Alan Radford

Alan specialises in dispute resolution both in the UK and in claims involving assets and trusts based in offshore jurisdictions; he has particular experience of solicitors’ regulatory matters and negligence. He is often called upon to provide risk management advice and analysis in respect of claims against legal advisors and has acted on behalf of a number of insurers providing professional indemnity cover to solicitors, barristers and will writers. He is often consulted by other solicitors to advise in connection with professional disputes, money laundering or regulatory investigations.

Alan is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) and regularly acts in trust and probate disputes and in professional negligence claims involving legal and other professions.

He is a member of The Law Society’s Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee and of the Nottinghamshire Law Society Council with a particular brief to deal with regulatory matters. He is a past President of the Nottinghamshire Society.

Alan has acted for a wide range of clients including individuals, charities and NHS trusts in claims involving challenges to wills arising from allegations of a lack of capacity, the exercise of undue influence, lack of knowledge and approval or failure to comply with testamentary formalitie.

Alan has represented a number of clients in High Court actions involving proprietary estoppel where family members allege that a will does not reflect promises made by a testator and in claims for maintenance under the 1975 Inheritance Act.

Alan has wide experience of Civil Procedure and has acted in dispute resolution covering a wide range of disciplines using ADR to resolve disputes including mediation and evaluation or adjudication. He was a nominated solicitor for the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund.

He is often consulted by clients in disputes involving delay or failures in the administration of estates and trusts and in claims against solicitors. and will writers.

Alan was a partner with top 100 law firm Browne Jacobson for over 20 years, serving as the firm’s Money Laundering Reporting Officer and led the firm’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme overseeing financial compliance and specialist accreditation in conveyancing.

Outside of the office Alan is a qualified rugby referee and keen follower of sport. He is a trustee of an educational charity and allotment association and volunteers as a supporter of an arts charity working with adults with learning disabilities.
