Since qualifying in 1995 Ian has practised as a successful litigation and dispute resolution solicitor. He is best known for his legal representation of vulnerable adults in mental capacity litigation and for financial recovery claims after exploitation or financial abuse.
Much of Ian’s work is undertaken in the specialist jurisdiction of the Court of Protection, which is empowered to make decisions about and on behalf of people who otherwise lack the mental capacity to do so themselves. He works very closely with the leading adult safeguarding charity, Action on Elder Abuse, to whom he provides regular assistance, training and advice.
Ian also undertakes risk management and advisory work for the care home and domiciliary care sectors and for local authority safeguarding teams, and regularly speaks at events on issues such as mental capacity and the law. Ian also undertakes County Court and High Court litigation, principally in the areas of breach of contract, breaches of legal duty and compensation for professional negligence.
