Richard Nelson LLP named in The Times’ Best Law Firms for 2020
Richard Nelson LLP has been named in the Times’ Best 200 legal firms list published by The Times for 2020.
Chosen out of 10,000 firms, Richard Nelson LLP has been nominated by our competitors, recognising our exceptional work in the legal sector. Different to a typical award in the industry, The Times awarded the top firms for the list by surveying other lawyers on which firms they would recommend – other than their own.
Our Growth and New Services in 2019
Over the past 12 months, we have opened offices in Plymouth, Newcastle, Leicester and West London.
We have also seen significant growth this year with 18 new members of staff. This breaks down to:
- 3 family consultants
- 2 education consultants
- 5 employment consultants
- 3 commercial litigators
- 1 commercial property consultant
- 1 paralegal
- 3 support staff
The firm has recently promoted senior members of their team, with Jacqui Callan being promoted to Partner.
We have also developed our commercial offering with three new commercial litigators, a newly launched commercial property law service.
Changes in the Industry
In the past year, we have seen an increase in privately funded criminal defence. The Professional Discipline Team represents professionals who are being investigated by their regulatory body regarding their fitness to practice in that profession by the Psychologists Protection Society.
When asked about any new challenges or changes in the legal industry, Marie Dancer, Managing Partner, noted that “the government reductions in legal aided criminal defence are seeing more people looking to fund their own defence. This has resulted in people seeing a real difference in what they get. This isn’t a criticism of legal aid, but a reflection that there is a limit of what can be achieved with a very restricted budget.
Moving forward, the firm has decided to not accept any legal aid instructions as we just do not feel that we can do any prospective clients’ justice for the constricted resource on legal aid.”
Plans for 2020
