Marie Dancer

Managing Partner

Marie trained as a barrister and was called to the Bar in 1999. She then trained at Nelsons Solicitors where she obtained dual qualification as a solicitor in 2002. Marie then joined Richard Nelson LLP in 2003 where she has been a Partner since 2009 and the Managing Partner since 2015. She specialises in defending healthcare professionals in fitness to practise investigations before their regulatory bodies.

Marie is a highly regarded professional discipline lawyer who defends a variety of professionals in fitness to practise investigations in the GMC, NMC, GDC, GPhC, HCPC, GOC and the NCTL. As well as fitness to practise hearings, she also regularly defends professionals in interim order hearings and registration appeals. She regularly prepares robust written representations defending allegations, which often results in matters not proceeding to full fitness to practise hearings. She also advises healthcare professionals on issues relating to their registration and has experience of appealing decisions by regulators to the High Court.

Marie was recently recognised as ‘the safest pair of hands’ in her professional disciplinary work in the Legal 500 2021.

Marie was my solicitor on a 'Fitness to Practise' case. She was honest with me from the beginning and I felt my case was in good hands. This case seemed like it would have ended in a hearing but due to Marie's expertise and advice, I am glad to say my case is over and there were no implications to my registration and the allegations were dismissed without a hearing. I am so happy and relieved after one whole stressful year but I am pleased to have had a dedicated and caring solicitor with me. She kept me updated and I recommend her services to any nurse facing a similar dilemma. Here is a woman who really knows what she is doing!!

A nurse

Marie Dancer is an absolutely top drawer solicitor and a pleasure to work with. Her methodical and comprehensive preparation often results in cases never reaching trial.

Gary Bell QC

Marie Dancer is a solicitor who I would recommend without hesitation for defending healthcare professionals. In every case in which we have worked together her pre-hearing advice was pragmatic, thorough and sensible, she has identified crucial issues early in complex cases and undertaken the preparation necessary to meet the points. She knows this area of practice inside out and works hard and enthusiastically for her clients achieving outstanding results.

Satisfied client

I would like to thank you so much for all what you have done for me, your expertise and proper judgment helped me to make the right decision. I would also like to thank you that you agreed to take over the case with a very short notice and worked all through your weekend to allow me sending a reply on time. I really appreciate your kindness and support all through the case.

Dr E

The Managing Director, Marie Dancer, is to be congratulated for her strengthening grip of the management of the firm and the high standards that were visible everywhere.

Lexcel Annual Quality Audit 2016

From the outset of what was a stressful and confusing situation, Marie Dancer handled my case impeccably; with the utmost professionalism and a genuine sense of caring and empathy. I contacted her at very short notice when I felt there was no hope in resolving my fitness to practise case. She reassured me, answered my queries promptly as and when I raised them and worked tirelessly over the Christmas break to ensure we made the deadline for submission in my case. What made the difference - as opposed to other legal firms I had contacted, is she actually believed in me. Suffice it to say, we won the case and a successful result was obtained - in a very short time scale.

I cannot recommend Richard Nelson LLP as a practise highly enough but more than that, I cannot sing Marie's praises highly enough. She quite literally turned my professional life around. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Marie was very supportive right from the first conference call that we had in relation to my case. As much as she possibly could, she put my mind at rest and explained the process that would follow. In addition to our first conference call, I looked up Marie's profile on the Richard Nelson LLP website, and also read what other clients of Marie had written. I am delighted to confirm that my experience of both Marie and Richard Nelson LLP is in-line with the experiences of the clients' comments on your website.

Marie always responded in a very timely manner to my emails, some of these were on the weekend. Although I didn’t expect responses over the weekend, it was none the less very welcome and helped put my mind at ease.
