NMC Restoration – Regaining Your Registration

If you have been struck off the NMC register following a decision of the NMC’s Fitness to Practise Committee, you may be eligible to apply for restoration after five years. This is a critical opportunity to return to practice, but the process is rigorous, and preparation is key. At Richard Nelson LLP, our expert NMC lawyers will support you through every step of the restoration process, giving you the best possible chance of success.

What Is an NMC Restoration Application?

Restoration is not a simple administrative formality. Your application will be considered by a new NMC Fitness to Practise Committee, which must be satisfied that it is both safe and appropriate to restore your name to the register.

A successful application depends on demonstrating genuine insight, sustained rehabilitation, and a clear commitment to safe and ethical practice. If your application is refused, you must wait 12 months before applying again, making it vital to get it right the first time.

What Will the Panel Consider?

At your restoration hearing, the Panel will assess issues such as:

  • The reasons you were struck off and your understanding of what went wrong.
  • What you’ve done since being struck off, including employment or voluntary work, ideally supported by strong references from each post.
  • Your insight and remorse, often evidenced through a well-prepared personal reflection statement.
  • Evidence of remediation and how you’ve addressed the concerns that led to your removal.
  • Your plans for if you are restored to the register.
  • Any training or CPD you’ve undertaken to stay up to date with the profession.

Our legal team will guide you in preparing and presenting this evidence to the highest standard.
